The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February 2021 Viet Nam represented 2.4 per cent of USA's foreign trade in goods, 0.8 % of USA's exports and 3.5 % of imports. In February Viet Nam was USA's eight largest foreign trade partner. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $7.7 billion was 10.1 per cent bigger than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Viet Nam was $5.8 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Viet Nam was 12.1 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $6.8 billion. Major product categories of imports from Viet Nam were Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), representing 19.5 percent of imports, Sitc821 (furniture and parts thereof; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings) 13.3 % and Sitc851 (footwear) 9.4 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Viet Nam declined by 2.0 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $979 million in February 2021. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc263 (cotton), which represented a share of 11.4 per cent of total exports, Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev) 11.1 % and Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)) 8.0 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February, trade in goods with Viet Nam has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-February, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $16.3 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 16.1 percent. During January-February the value of imports was $14.4 billion. The export value was $1.9 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of imports during this period increased by 18.7 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), worth $2.8 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc263 (cotton), worth being $225 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 0.7 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $12.6 billion.
