USA's foreign trade with Thailand, exports to Thailand and imports from Thailand in February 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

Trade with Thailand represented in February of 2021, 1.2 per cent share of USA's foreign trade in goods, 0.7% of USA's exports and 1.6% of imports. In February Thailand was USA's 20. largest foreign trade partner. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. $3.9 billion worth of trade was 0.8 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Thailand was $2.2 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Thailand was 16.9 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $3.1 billion. Major product categories of imports from Thailand were Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.), representing 19.0 percent of imports, Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 10.5 % and Sitc625 (rubber tyres, interchangeable tyre treads, tyre flaps and inner tubes for wheels of all kinds) 5.3 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Thailand amounted to more than a third lower relative to the previous year's February, thus amounting to $844 million in February 2021. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc971 (gold,non-monetary), which represented a share of 11.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev) 8.5 % and Sitc784 (parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of groups 722, 781, 782 and 783) 7.3 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February, trade in goods with Thailand has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-February, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $8.3 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 3.0 percent. During January-February the value of imports was $6.4 billion. The export value was $1.9 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of imports during this period increased by 13.8 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.), worth $1.0 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), worth being $165 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 21.6 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $4.5 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $3.2 billion.
