USA's foreign trade with Bangladesh, exports to Bangladesh and imports from Bangladesh in Juli 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In Juli Bangladesh was USA's 49. largest foreign trade partner. Decrease from the previous month was 2 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. $606 million worth of trade was 25.3 per cent lower than in Juli of the previous year. In Juli the trade balance with Bangladesh was $389 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Bangladesh decreased by 9.2 per cent compared to in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $497 million in Juli 2020. Major product categories of imports from Bangladesh were Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)), representing 32.9 percent of imports, Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.) 21.2 % and Sitc842 (women's or girls' coats, capes, jackets, suits, trousers, shorts, shirts, dresses and skirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)) 19.5 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Bangladesh declined considerably,by 58.9 per cent, compared to in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $108 million in Juli 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)), which represented a share of 33.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc263 (cotton) 18.5 % and Sitc343 (natural gas, whether or not liquefied) 17.8 % of the exports.

Development during January-Juli 2020

The trade in goods between January and Juli of 2020 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $4.4 billion, down 11.8 %. During January-Juli the value of imports was $3.3 billion. The export value was $1.1 billion. Compared to the corresponding period January - Juli in 2019, the value of imports during this period decreased by 16.8 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)), worth $1.1 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)), worth being $279 million. The value of exports during this period increased by 8.8 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-Juli remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $2.3 billion. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $3.0 billion.
