USA's foreign trade with Bangladesh, exports to Bangladesh and imports from Bangladesh in February 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February Bangladesh was USA's 45. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 2 places. $780 million worth of trade was 1.6 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Bangladesh was $362 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Bangladesh decreased by 4.3 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $571 million in February 2021. Major product categories of imports from Bangladesh were Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)), representing 29.9 percent of imports, Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.) 21.9 % and Sitc842 (women's or girls' coats, capes, jackets, suits, trousers, shorts, shirts, dresses and skirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)) 16.4 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Bangladesh were 6.8 percent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $209 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)), which represented a share of 43.4 per cent of total exports, Sitc282 (ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel) 23.3 % and Sitc263 (cotton) 19.7 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February 2021, the value of trade in goods between countries was lower than the corresponding period in the previous year. The value of the trade was $1.6 billion, a decrease of 4.0 %. During January-February the value of imports was $1.2 billion. The export value was $417 million. Compared to the corresponding period January - February in 2020, the value of imports during this period decreased by 8.6 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)), worth $350 million. In export the largest value had Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)), worth being $171 million. The value of exports during this period increased by 12.2 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $760 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $916 million.
