USA's foreign trade with Bangladesh, exports to Bangladesh and imports from Bangladesh in September 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In September Bangladesh was USA's 49. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 6 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. $661 million worth of trade was 22.8 per cent lower than in September of the previous year. In September the trade balance with Bangladesh was $439 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Bangladesh was 1.1 per cent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $550 million. Major product categories of imports from Bangladesh were Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)), representing 33.9 percent of imports, Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.) 24.1 % and Sitc842 (women's or girls' coats, capes, jackets, suits, trousers, shorts, shirts, dresses and skirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)) 14.9 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Bangladesh declined considerably,by 64.5 per cent, compared to in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $111 million in September 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc282 (ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel), which represented a share of 41.5 per cent of total exports, Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)) 17.2 % and Sitc263 (cotton) 12.2 % of the exports.

Development during January-September 2020

The trade in goods between January and September of 2020 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $5.9 billion, down 9.7 %. During January-September the value of imports was $4.6 billion. The export value was $1.3 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of imports decreased by -11.1% and the value of exports by -4.4 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc841 (men's or boys' coats, capes, jackets, suits, blazers, trousers, shorts, shirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)), worth $1.6 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)), worth being $317 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-September remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $3.2 billion. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $3.7 billion.
