USA's foreign trade with Pakistan, exports to Pakistan and imports from Pakistan in February 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February Pakistan was USA's 51. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 3 places. $583 million worth of trade was 3.3 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Pakistan was $93 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Pakistan was 16.9 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $338 million. Major product categories of imports from Pakistan were Sitc658 (made-up articles, wholly or chiefly of textile materials, n.e.s.), representing 33.5 percent of imports, Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.) 12.9 % and Sitc842 (women's or girls' coats, capes, jackets, suits, trousers, shorts, shirts, dresses and skirts, underwear, nightwear and similar articles of textile fabrics, not knitted or crocheted (other than those of subgroup 845.2)) 7.6 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Pakistan declined by 21.9 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $245 million in February 2021. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc263 (cotton), which represented a share of 36.7 per cent of total exports, Sitc222 (oil-seeds and oleaginous fruits of a kind used for the extraction of *soft* fixed vegetable oils (excluding flours and meals)) 9.9 % and Sitc282 (ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel) 9.7 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February 2021, the value of trade in goods between countries was lower than the corresponding period in the previous year. The value of the trade was $1.3 billion, a decrease of 0.3 %. During January-February the value of imports was $719 million. The export value was $542 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of imports during this period increased by 12.9 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc658 (made-up articles, wholly or chiefly of textile materials, n.e.s.), worth $239 million. In export the largest value had Sitc263 (cotton), worth being $164 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 13.7 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $177 million. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $8.7 million.
