USA's foreign trade with India, exports to India and imports from India in February 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February 2021 India represented 2.3 per cent of USA's foreign trade in goods, 2.3 % of USA's exports and 2.3 % of imports. In February India was USA's nineth largest foreign trade partner. $7.4 billion worth of trade was 4.7 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with India was $1.6 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from India was 0.1 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $4.5 billion. Major product categories of imports from India were Sitc667 (pearls and precious or semiprecious stones, unworked or worked), representing 16.2 percent of imports, Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)) 11.9 % and Sitc658 (made-up articles, wholly or chiefly of textile materials, n.e.s.) 5.3 % of the imports.

The value of exports to India declined by 11.4 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $2.9 billion in February 2021. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), which represented a share of 23.2 per cent of total exports, Sitc667 (pearls and precious or semiprecious stones, unworked or worked) 12.6 % and Sitc971 (gold,non-monetary) 8.6 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February 2021, the value of trade in goods between countries was lower than the corresponding period in the previous year. The value of the trade was $15.4 billion, a decrease of 1.3 %. During January-February the value of imports was $9.7 billion. The export value was $5.7 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of imports during this period increased by 2.3 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc667 (pearls and precious or semiprecious stones, unworked or worked), worth $1.7 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth being $1.3 billion. The value of exports during this period decreased by 7.0 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $4.0 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $3.4 billion.
