USA's foreign trade with Afghanistan, exports to Afghanistan and imports from Afghanistan in February 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February Afghanistan was USA's 81. largest foreign trade partner. Decrease from the previous month was 51 places. Most of the the value of trade consists of USA's exports to Afghanistan. Amounting trade to worth of $130 million was 53.4 per cent bigger than in February of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Afghanistan was $128 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Afghanistan decreased by 16.6 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.3 million in February 2021. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc057 (fruit and nuts (not including oil nuts), fresh or dried) representing a share of 51.7 per cent. Other major categories of imports were Sitc659 (floor coverings, etc.), 25.8 per cent of imports and Sitc075 (spices) 10.2 %.

Exports to Afghanistan grew strongly over the previous year's February. The value of exports was $129 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), which represented a share of 81.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc045 (cereals, unmilled (other than wheat, rice, barley and maize)) 8.8 % and Sitc778 (electrical machinery and apparatus, n.e.s.) 1.3 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February trade in goods with Afghanistan has grown slower than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-February, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $148 million. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 1.7 percent. During January-February the value of imports was $3.2 million. The export value was $145 million. Compared to the corresponding period January - February in 2020, the value of imports during this period decreased by 16.5 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc057 (fruit and nuts (not including oil nuts), fresh or dried), worth $1.5 million. In export the largest value had Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), worth being $108 million. The value of exports during this period increased by 2.2 %. The trade balance between USA and Afghanistanin between January and February was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $141 million.
