USA's foreign trade with Qatar, exports to Qatar and imports from Qatar in February 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February Qatar was USA's 71. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 5 places. $222 million worth of trade was 41.6 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Qatar was $17 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Qatar was 55.8 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $102 million. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar) representing a share of 61.4 per cent. Other major product categories of imports were Sitc684 (aluminium), 16.8 percent of imports, Sitc562 (fertilizers (other than those of group 272)) 11.3 % and Sitc512 (alcohols, phenols, phenol-alcohols, and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives) 6.2 % of imports.

The value of exports to Qatar declined considerably,by 62.0 per cent, compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $119 million in February 2021. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc598 (miscellaneous chemical products, n.e.s.), which represented a share of 8.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 7.8 % and Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 7.6 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-40.5 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $498 million. During January-February the value of imports was $223 million. The export value was $274 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of imports during this period increased by 41.4 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth $133 million. In export the largest value had Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), worth being $35 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 59.6 %. The trade balance between USA and Qatarin between January and February was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $51 million.
