USA's foreign trade with Saudi Arabia, exports to Saudi Arabia and imports from Saudi Arabia in February 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February Saudi Arabia was USA's 36. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 2 places. $1.2 billion worth of trade was 42.9 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Saudi Arabia was $134 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Saudi Arabia decreased strongly, by 43.6 per cent compared to in February of the previous year. The import amounted to $528 million in February 2021. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) representing a share of 74.1 per cent.

The value of exports to Saudi Arabia amounted to more than a third lower relative to the previous year's February, thus amounting to $662 million in February 2021. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 17.3 per cent of total exports, Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 6.4 % and Sitc044 (maize (not including sweet corn), unmilled) 4.9 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-36.0 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $2.5 billion. During January-February the value of imports was $1.1 billion. The export value was $1.5 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -46.8 % and in the value of exports -25.1 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $696 million. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $215 million. The domestic trade balance between the two countries was in surplus, as it had remained in deficit in January-February of the previous year. The surplus was worth $420 million.
