USA's foreign trade with Kuwait, exports to Kuwait and imports from Kuwait in February 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February Kuwait was USA's 66. largest foreign trade partner. Decrease from the previous month was 3 places. Most of the the value of trade consists of USA's exports to Kuwait. $248 million worth of trade was 19.0 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Kuwait was $151 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Kuwait decreased strongly, by 56.0 per cent compared to in February of the previous year. The import amounted to $48 million in February 2021. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) representing a share of 82.0 per cent. Other major categories of imports were Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind), 10.9 per cent of imports and Sitc335 (residual petroleum products, n.e.s., and related materials) 6.4 %.

The value of exports to Kuwait were 1.8 percent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $200 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 32.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.) 10.3 % and Sitc782 (motor vehicles for the transport of goods and special-purpose motor vehicles) 8.1 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-21.2 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $491 million. During January-February the value of imports was $54 million. The export value was $437 million. Compared to the corresponding period January - February in 2020, the value of imports during this period decreased by 77.3 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $40 million. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $112 million. The value of exports during this period increased by 13.5 %. The trade balance between USA and Kuwaitin between January and February was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $383 million.
