USA's foreign trade with Iraq, exports to Iraq and imports from Iraq in November 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In November Iraq was USA's 74. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 12 places. $172 million worth of trade was 71.0 per cent lower than in November of the previous year. In November the trade balance with Iraq was $79 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Iraq decreased strongly, by 76.3 per cent compared to in November of the previous year. The import amounted to $126 million in November 2020. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) representing a share of 99.1 per cent.

The value of exports to Iraq declined by 27.0 per cent compared to in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $47 million in November 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), which represented a share of 8.6 per cent of total exports, Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 7.6 % and Sitc872 (instruments and appliances, n.e.s., for medical, surgical, dental or veterinary purposes) 7.2 % of the exports.

Development during January-November 2020

During January-November, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-49.9 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $3.7 billion. During January-November the value of imports was $3.0 billion. The export value was $705 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -52.6 % and in the value of exports -33.8 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $3.0 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.), worth being $47 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-November remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $2.3 billion. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $5.3 billion.
