USA's foreign trade with Iraq, exports to Iraq and imports from Iraq in February 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February Iraq was USA's 73. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 3 places. $205 million worth of trade was 65.4 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Iraq was $95 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Iraq decreased strongly, by 71.8 per cent compared to in February of the previous year. The import amounted to $150 million in February 2021. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) representing a share of 80.8 per cent. The second major category of imports was Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), corresponding to the share of 18.5 per cent of imports.

The value of exports to Iraq declined by 11.2 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $55 million in February 2021. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.), which represented a share of 19.3 per cent of total exports, Sitc891 (arms and ammunition) 8.1 % and Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof) 7.9 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-62.4 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $429 million. During January-February the value of imports was $313 million. The export value was $116 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -68.9 % and in the value of exports -14.2 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $284 million. In export the largest value had Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.), worth being $11 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $198 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $871 million.
