USA's foreign trade with Lebanon, exports to Lebanon and imports from Lebanon in November 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In November Lebanon was USA's 93. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 4 places. Most of the the value of trade consists of USA's exports to Lebanon. Amounting trade to worth of $82 million was 33.8 per cent bigger than in November of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Lebanon was $45 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Lebanon was 54.1 per cent higher than in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $18 million. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.) representing a share of 50.0 per cent. Other major categories of imports were Sitc058 (fruit, preserved, and fruit preparations (excluding fruit juices)), 6.4 per cent of imports and Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind) 5.9 %.

The value of exports to Lebanon were 28.9 percent higher than in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $64 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), which represented a share of 19.9 per cent of total exports, Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 18.8 % and Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)) 16.0 % of the exports.

Development during January-November 2020

During January-November, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-36.6 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $688 million. During January-November the value of imports was $173 million. The export value was $515 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of imports during this period increased by 24.3 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.), worth $86 million. In export the largest value had Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth being $139 million. The value of exports during this period decreased by 45.6 %. The trade balance between USA and Lebanonin between January and November was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $342 million.
