USA's foreign trade with Lebanon, exports to Lebanon and imports from Lebanon in Juli 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In Juli Lebanon was USA's 104. largest foreign trade partner. $46 million worth of trade was 44.9 per cent lower than in Juli of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Lebanon was $9.8 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Lebanon was 39.0 per cent higher than in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $18 million. More than half of the value of imports was in Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.) representing a share of 69.0 per cent. The second major category of imports was Sitc058 (fruit, preserved, and fruit preparations (excluding fruit juices)), corresponding to the share of 6.8 per cent of imports.

The value of exports to Lebanon declined considerably,by 60.4 per cent, compared to in Juli of the previous year, thus amounting to $28 million in Juli 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), which represented a share of 35.2 per cent of total exports, Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 9.9 % and Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)) 7.7 % of the exports.

Development during January-Juli 2020

During January-Juli, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-46.2 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $365 million. During January-Juli the value of imports was $79 million. The export value was $286 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -16.8 % and in the value of exports -51.0 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc897 (jewellery, goldsmiths' and silversmiths' wares, and other articles of precious or semiprecious materials, n.e.s.), worth $34 million. In export the largest value had Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth being $73 million. The trade balance between USA and Lebanonin between January and Juli was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $207 million.
