USA's foreign trade with Romania, exports to Romania and imports from Romania in August 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In August Romania was USA's 67. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 2 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. $245 million worth of trade was 10.4 per cent lower than in August of the previous year. In August the trade balance with Romania was $134 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Romania decreased by 9.4 per cent compared to in August of the previous year, thus amounting to $189 million in August 2020. Major product categories of imports from Romania were Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), representing 7.6 percent of imports, Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)) 6.6 % and Sitc772 (electrical apparatus for switching or protecting electrical circuits or for making connections to or in electrical circuits (e.g., switches, relays, fuses, lightning arresters, voltage limiters, surge suppressors, plugs and sockets, lamp-holders and) 6.6 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Romania declined by 13.9 per cent compared to in August of the previous year, thus amounting to $55 million in August 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), which represented a share of 9.0 per cent of total exports, Sitc773 (equipment for distributing electricity, n.e.s.) 8.8 % and Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.) 8.0 % of the exports.

Development during January-August 2020

The trade in goods between January and August of 2020 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $2.0 billion, down 13.0 %. During January-August the value of imports was $1.4 billion. The export value was $575 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of imports decreased by -15.6% and the value of exports by -5.8 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76), worth $95 million. In export the largest value had Sitc891 (arms and ammunition), worth being $48 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-August remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $800 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $1.0 billion.
