USA's foreign trade with Georgia, exports to Georgia and imports from Georgia in August 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In August Georgia was USA's 112. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 5 places. Most of the the value of trade consists of USA's exports to Georgia. $29 million worth of trade was 71.1 per cent lower than in August of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Georgia was $24 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Georgia decreased strongly, by 80.9 per cent compared to in August of the previous year. The import amounted to $2.9 million in August 2020. Major product categories of imports from Georgia were Sitc671 (pig-iron, spiegeleisen, sponge iron, iron or steel granules and powders and ferro-alloys), representing 22.5 percent of imports, Sitc111 (non-alcoholic beverages, n.e.s.) 11.0 % and Sitc112 (alcoholic beverages) 10.9 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Georgia declined considerably,by 69.3 per cent, compared to in August of the previous year, thus amounting to $26 million in August 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 29.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc012 (other meat and edible meat offal, fresh, chilled or frozen (except meat and meat offal unfit or unsuitable for human consumption)) 24.5 % and Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542) 9.0 % of the exports.

Development during January-August 2020

During January-August, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-37.2 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $387 million. During January-August the value of imports was $92 million. The export value was $295 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -16.5 % and in the value of exports -41.7 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc671 (pig-iron, spiegeleisen, sponge iron, iron or steel granules and powders and ferro-alloys), worth $57 million. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $147 million. The trade balance between USA and Georgian between January and August was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $203 million.
