USA's foreign trade with Ukraine, exports to Ukraine and imports from Ukraine in August 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In August Ukraine was USA's 69. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 7 places. $209 million worth of trade was 26.4 per cent lower than in August of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Ukraine was $40 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Ukraine decreased by 5.9 per cent compared to in August of the previous year, thus amounting to $84 million in August 2020. Major product categories of imports from Ukraine were Sitc671 (pig-iron, spiegeleisen, sponge iron, iron or steel granules and powders and ferro-alloys), representing 42.4 percent of imports, Sitc421 (fixed vegetable fats and oils, *soft*, crude, refined or fractionated) 6.4 % and Sitc775 (household-type electrical and non-electrical equipment, n.e.s.) 3.8 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Ukraine amounted to more than a third lower relative to the previous year's August, thus amounting to $125 million in August 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 31.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc321 (coal, whether or not pulverized, but not agglomerated) 23.5 % and Sitc034 (fish, fresh (live or dead), chilled or frozen) 7.8 % of the exports.

Development during January-August 2020

The trade in goods between January and August of 2020 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $2.0 billion, down 18.0 %. During January-August the value of imports was $827 million. The export value was $1.2 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of imports decreased by -9.7% and the value of exports by -22.9 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc671 (pig-iron, spiegeleisen, sponge iron, iron or steel granules and powders and ferro-alloys), worth $390 million. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $416 million. The trade balance between USA and Ukrainen between January and August was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $385 million.
