USA's foreign trade with Belarus, exports to Belarus and imports from Belarus in August 2020

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In August Belarus was USA's 108. largest foreign trade partner. Decrease from the previous month was 10 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. $41 million worth of trade was 25.7 per cent lower than in August of the previous year. In August the trade balance with Belarus was $27 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Belarus decreased by 22.3 per cent compared to in August of the previous year, thus amounting to $34 million in August 2020. Major product categories of imports from Belarus were Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), representing 42.6 percent of imports, Sitc562 (fertilizers (other than those of group 272)) 37.6 % and Sitc821 (furniture and parts thereof; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings) 3.5 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Belarus amounted to more than a third lower relative to the previous year's August, thus amounting to $7.0 million in August 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), which represented a share of 16.5 per cent of total exports, Sitc784 (parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of groups 722, 781, 782 and 783) 12.7 % and Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.) 12.6 % of the exports.

Development during January-August 2020

During January-August, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-22.1 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $301 million. During January-August the value of imports was $223 million. The export value was $78 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -24.6 % and in the value of exports -13.9 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth $86 million. In export the largest value had Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth being $13 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-August remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $145 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $205 million.
