USA's foreign trade with Latvia, exports to Latvia and imports from Latvia in February 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February Latvia was USA's 104. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 13 places. $44 million worth of trade was 6.8 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Latvia was $5.3 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Latvia was 3.2 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $25 million. Major product categories of imports from Latvia were Sitc634 (veneers, plywood, particle board, and other wood, worked, n.e.s.), representing 15.1 percent of imports, Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 13.7 % and Sitc112 (alcoholic beverages) 13.6 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Latvia declined by 17.0 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $19 million in February 2021. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), which represented a share of 14.4 per cent of total exports, Sitc112 (alcoholic beverages) 14.1 % and Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 9.2 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February, trade in goods with Latvia has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During this year trade in goods between countries was significantly higher than in January-February of the previous year. Growth was as high as 22.1410283165941 per cent and the value of the trade increased to $135 million. During January-February the value of imports was $59 million. The export value was $76 million. Compared to the corresponding period January - February in 2020, the value of imports during this period decreased by 17.5 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc112 (alcoholic beverages), worth $14 million. In export the largest value had Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), worth being $42 million. The value of exports during this period increased by 94.9 %. The domestic trade balance between the two countries was in surplus, as it had remained in deficit in January-February of the previous year. The surplus was worth $17 million.
