USA's foreign trade with Latvia, exports to Latvia and imports from Latvia in November 2020


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In November Latvia was USA's 95. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 3 places. $78 million worth of trade was 43.2 per cent lower than in November of the previous year. In November the trade balance with Latvia was $12 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Latvia decreased strongly, by 50.0 per cent compared to in November of the previous year. The import amounted to $45 million in November 2020. Major product categories of imports from Latvia were Sitc714 (engines and motors, non-electric (other than those of groups 712, 713 and 718); parts, n.e.s., of these engines and motors), representing 25.1 percent of imports, Sitc112 (alcoholic beverages) 20.9 % and Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 8.9 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Latvia declined by 30.2 per cent compared to in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $33 million in November 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), which represented a share of 37.9 per cent of total exports, Sitc723 (civil engineering and contractors' plant and equipment; parts thereof) 10.0 % and Sitc112 (alcoholic beverages) 9.7 % of the exports.

Development during January-November 2020

During January-November, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-39.4 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $773 million. During January-November the value of imports was $488 million. The export value was $285 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -38.0 % and in the value of exports -41.7 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc714 (engines and motors, non-electric (other than those of groups 712, 713 and 718); parts, n.e.s., of these engines and motors), worth $136 million. In export the largest value had Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), worth being $61 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-November remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $202 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $297 million.
