USA's foreign trade with Ireland, exports to Ireland and imports from Ireland in February 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

Ireland's share of USA's foreign trade in goods in February 2021 represented a share of 2.3 per cent. Share of USA's that month's exports was 0.7% and 3.3% of imports. In February Ireland was USA's tenth largest foreign trade partner. Decrease from the previous month was 3 places. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. Amounting trade to worth of $7.3 billion was 33.7 per cent bigger than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Ireland was $5.4 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Ireland was 34.9 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $6.4 billion. Major product categories of imports from Ireland were Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)), representing 23.5 percent of imports, Sitc515 (organo-inorganic compounds, heterocyclic compounds, nucleic acids and their salts, and sulphonamides) 22.4 % and Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542) 21.9 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Ireland were 25.9 percent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $913 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), which represented a share of 24.6 per cent of total exports, Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev) 12.1 % and Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)) 10.0 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February, trade in goods with Ireland has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-February, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $13.2 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 7.0 percent. During January-February the value of imports was $11.4 billion. The export value was $1.7 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 6.7% and the value of exports by 9.0%. The largest value in imports was in Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), worth $3.3 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), worth being $324 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $9.7 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $9.1 billion.
