USA's foreign trade with Finland, exports to Finland and imports from Finland in Juli 2020

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In Juli Finland was USA's 54. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 5 places. $459 million worth of trade was 44.0 per cent lower than in Juli of the previous year. In Juli the trade balance with Finland was $218 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Finland decreased strongly, by 43.0 per cent compared to in Juli of the previous year. The import amounted to $339 million in Juli 2020. Major product categories of imports from Finland were Sitc641 (papper and paperboard), representing 15.8 percent of imports, Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542) 6.3 % and Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.) 5.8 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Finland amounted to more than a third lower relative to the previous year's Juli, thus amounting to $121 million in Juli 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc776 (thermionic, cold cathode or photo-cathode valves and tubes (e.g., vacuum or vapour or gas-filled valves and tubes, mercury arc rectifying valves and tubes, cathode-ray tubes, television camera tubes); diodes, transistors and similar semiconductor dev), which represented a share of 13.8 per cent of total exports, Sitc212 (furskins, raw (including heads, tails, paws and other pieces or cuttings, suitable for furriers' use), other than hides and skins of group 211) 8.2 % and Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.) 5.9 % of the exports.

Development during January-Juli 2020

During January-Juli, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-33.6 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $3.5 billion. During January-Juli the value of imports was $2.6 billion. The export value was $868 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -37.1 % and in the value of exports -20.1 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc641 (papper and paperboard), worth $375 million. In export the largest value had Sitc598 (miscellaneous chemical products, n.e.s.), worth being $54 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-Juli remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $1.7 billion. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $3.1 billion.
