USA's foreign trade with Norway, exports to Norway and imports from Norway in November 2020

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In November Norway was USA's 54. largest foreign trade partner. $565 million worth of trade was 24.4 per cent lower than in November of the previous year. In November the trade balance with Norway was $155 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Norway decreased by 10.9 per cent compared to in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $360 million in November 2020. Major product categories of imports from Norway were Sitc034 (fish, fresh (live or dead), chilled or frozen), representing 17.4 percent of imports, Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind) 10.1 % and Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) 9.6 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Norway amounted to more than a third lower relative to the previous year's November, thus amounting to $205 million in November 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), which represented a share of 7.2 per cent of total exports, Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.) 6.4 % and Sitc728 (other machinery and equipment specialized for particular industries; parts thereof, n.e.s.) 6.2 % of the exports.

Development during January-November 2020

During January-November, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-37.0 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $6.1 billion. During January-November the value of imports was $3.6 billion. The export value was $2.5 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -40.9 % and in the value of exports -30.6 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc034 (fish, fresh (live or dead), chilled or frozen), worth $660 million. In export the largest value had Sitc792 (aircraft and associated equipment; spacecraft (including satellites) and spacecraft launch vehicles; parts thereof), worth being $257 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-November remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $1.1 billion. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $2.5 billion.
