USA's foreign trade with Sweden, exports to Sweden and imports from Sweden in September 2020

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In September Sweden was USA's 32. largest foreign trade partner. Decrease from the previous month was 2 places. Amounting trade to worth of $1.3 billion was 5.5 per cent bigger than in September of the previous year. In September the trade balance with Sweden was $630 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Sweden was 9.2 per cent higher than in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $972 million. Major product categories of imports from Sweden were Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), representing 22.0 percent of imports, Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar) 6.8 % and Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind) 4.8 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Sweden declined by 3.9 per cent compared to in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $343 million in September 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), which represented a share of 13.2 per cent of total exports, Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude) 8.7 % and Sitc874 (measuring, checking, analysing and controlling instruments and apparatus, n.e.s.) 8.4 % of the exports.

Development during January-September 2020

During January-September, the value of goods between the two countries rose to $12.5 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 3.5 percent. During January-September the value of imports was $8.9 billion. The export value was $3.6 billion. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 0.2% and the value of exports by 12.7%. The largest value in imports was in Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth $1.5 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth being $508 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-September remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $5.3 billion. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $5.7 billion.
