USA's foreign trade with Sweden, exports to Sweden and imports from Sweden in February 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February Sweden was USA's 32. largest foreign trade partner. Most of the value of trade between the countries consists of the import to USA. $1.4 billion worth of trade was 1.7 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Sweden was $727 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Sweden was 2.6 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $1.1 billion. Major product categories of imports from Sweden were Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), representing 18.1 percent of imports, Sitc542 (medicaments (including veterinary medicaments)) 6.4 % and Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar) 4.9 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Sweden declined by 13.0 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $340 million in February 2021.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February, trade in goods with Sweden has grown faster than USA's trade in goods with the rest of the world. During January-February, the value of trade in goods between the two countries rose to $3.0 billion. Growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year was 7.7 percent. During January-February the value of imports was $2.2 billion. The export value was $803 million. Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the value of imports increased by 6.5% and the value of exports by 11.0%. The largest value in imports was in Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth $384 million. In export the largest value had Sitc541 (medicinal and pharmaceutical products, other than medicaments of group 542), worth being $107 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $1.4 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $1.3 billion.
