USA's foreign trade with Argentina, exports to Argentina and imports from Argentina in November 2020

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In November Argentina was USA's 43. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 2 places. $788 million worth of trade was 1.2 per cent lower than in November of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Argentina was $217 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Argentina decreased by 10.1 per cent compared to in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $285 million in November 2020. Major product categories of imports from Argentina were Sitc971 (gold,non-monetary), representing 23.6 percent of imports, Sitc036 (crustaceans, molluscs and aquatic invertebrates, whether in shell or not, fresh (live or dead), chilled, frozen, dried, salted or in brine; crustaceans, in shell, cooked by steaming or boiling in water, whether or not chilled, frozen, dried, salted o) 10.0 % and Sitc684 (aluminium) 7.5 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Argentina were 4.8 percent higher than in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $502 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.), which represented a share of 8.2 per cent of total exports, Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 5.9 % and Sitc515 (organo-inorganic compounds, heterocyclic compounds, nucleic acids and their salts, and sulphonamides) 4.4 % of the exports.

Development during January-November 2020

During January-November, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-23.1 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $9.4 billion. During January-November the value of imports was $3.9 billion. The export value was $5.5 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -15.6 % and in the value of exports -27.7 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $489 million. In export the largest value had Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth being $564 million. The trade balance between USA and Argentinan between January and November was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $1.6 billion.
