USA's foreign trade with Peru, exports to Peru and imports from Peru in September 2020

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In September Peru was USA's 38. largest foreign trade partner. $1.1 billion worth of trade was 19.9 per cent lower than in September of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Peru was $126 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Peru decreased by 10.5 per cent compared to in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $485 million in September 2020. Major product categories of imports from Peru were Sitc057 (fruit and nuts (not including oil nuts), fresh or dried), representing 25.3 percent of imports, Sitc054 (vegetables, fresh, chilled, frozen or simply preserved (including dried leguminous vegetables); roots, tubers and other edible vegetable products, n.e.s., fresh or dried) 8.1 % and Sitc071 (coffee and coffee substitutes) 6.9 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Peru declined by 26.0 per cent compared to in September of the previous year, thus amounting to $611 million in September 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), which represented a share of 23.8 per cent of total exports, Sitc752 (automatic data-processing machines and units thereof; magnetic or optical readers, machines for transcribing data onto data media in coded form and machines for processing such data, n.e.s.) 4.3 % and Sitc764 (telecommunications equipment, n.e.s., and parts, n.e.s., and accessories of apparatus falling within division 76) 3.8 % of the exports.

Development during January-September 2020

The trade in goods between January and September of 2020 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $9.3 billion, down 19.2 %. During January-September the value of imports was $3.8 billion. The export value was $5.5 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -12.1 % and in the value of exports -23.6 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc057 (fruit and nuts (not including oil nuts), fresh or dried), worth $972 million. In export the largest value had Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth being $1.4 billion. The trade balance between USA and Perun between January and September was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $1.7 billion.
