USA's foreign trade with Peru, exports to Peru and imports from Peru in February 2021


The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February Peru was USA's 35. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 2 places. $1.2 billion worth of trade was 11.3 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Peru was $194 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Peru was 0.6 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $506 million. Major product categories of imports from Peru were Sitc057 (fruit and nuts (not including oil nuts), fresh or dried), representing 41.2 percent of imports, Sitc682 (copper) 7.3 % and Sitc845 (articles of apparel, of textile fabrics, whether or not knitted or crocheted, n.e.s.) 6.0 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Peru declined by 18.3 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $700 million in February 2021. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), which represented a share of 19.5 per cent of total exports, Sitc044 (maize (not including sweet corn), unmilled) 8.0 % and Sitc282 (ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel) 4.3 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

The trade in goods between January and February of 2021 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $2.7 billion, down 11.4 %. During January-February the value of imports was $1.1 billion. The export value was $1.6 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of imports decreased by -14.6% and the value of exports by -9.1 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc057 (fruit and nuts (not including oil nuts), fresh or dried), worth $442 million. In export the largest value had Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth being $390 million. The trade balance between USA and Perun between January and February was in surplus for USA. The timing surplus was $482 million.
