USA's foreign trade with Ecuador, exports to Ecuador and imports from Ecuador in November 2020

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In November Ecuador was USA's 41. largest foreign trade partner. $888 million worth of trade was 18.9 per cent lower than in November of the previous year. In November the trade balance with Ecuador was $125 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Ecuador decreased strongly, by 31.8 per cent compared to in November of the previous year. The import amounted to $507 million in November 2020. Major product categories of imports from Ecuador were Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), representing 39.2 percent of imports, Sitc036 (crustaceans, molluscs and aquatic invertebrates, whether in shell or not, fresh (live or dead), chilled, frozen, dried, salted or in brine; crustaceans, in shell, cooked by steaming or boiling in water, whether or not chilled, frozen, dried, salted o) 11.2 % and Sitc057 (fruit and nuts (not including oil nuts), fresh or dried) 9.6 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Ecuador were 8.2 percent higher than in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $381 million. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), which represented a share of 32.7 per cent of total exports, Sitc081 (feeding stuff for animals (not including unmilled cereals)) 10.2 % and Sitc342 (liquefied propane and butane) 7.6 % of the exports.

Development during January-November 2020

The trade in goods between January and November of 2020 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $9.3 billion, down 18.1 %. During January-November the value of imports was $5.4 billion. The export value was $3.9 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -14.1 % and in the value of exports -23.2 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $2.3 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth being $1.3 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-November remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $1.6 billion. The trade deficit continued to widen compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $1.3 billion.
