USA's foreign trade with Ecuador, exports to Ecuador and imports from Ecuador in February 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In February Ecuador was USA's 42. largest foreign trade partner. Rise from the previous month 2 places. $862 million worth of trade was 14.5 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Ecuador was $151 million in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Ecuador decreased by 18.0 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $507 million in February 2021. Major product categories of imports from Ecuador were Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), representing 32.7 percent of imports, Sitc036 (crustaceans, molluscs and aquatic invertebrates, whether in shell or not, fresh (live or dead), chilled, frozen, dried, salted or in brine; crustaceans, in shell, cooked by steaming or boiling in water, whether or not chilled, frozen, dried, salted o) 13.5 % and Sitc292 (crude vegetable materials, n.e.s.) 10.3 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Ecuador declined by 8.9 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $355 million in February 2021. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), which represented a share of 19.1 per cent of total exports, Sitc081 (feeding stuff for animals (not including unmilled cereals)) 12.7 % and Sitc282 (ferrous waste and scrap; remelting scrap ingots of iron or steel) 7.6 % of the exports.

Development during January-February 2021

The trade in goods between January and February of 2021 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $1.9 billion, down 17.2 %. During January-February the value of imports was $1.1 billion. The export value was $772 million. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -17.7 % and in the value of exports -16.4 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $432 million. In export the largest value had Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth being $206 million. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $310 million. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2020. At that time, the deficit was $393 million.
