USA's foreign trade with Colombia, exports to Colombia and imports from Colombia in August 2020

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

In August 2020 Colombia represented 0.5 per cent of USA's foreign trade in goods, 0.8 % of USA's exports and 0.4 % of imports. In August Colombia was USA's 27. largest foreign trade partner. $1.7 billion worth of trade was 24.6 per cent lower than in August of the previous year. During the month, the balance of trade with Colombia was $96 million of surplus.

The value of imports from Colombia decreased by 27.0 per cent compared to in August of the previous year, thus amounting to $796 million in August 2020. Major product categories of imports from Colombia were Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), representing 21.3 percent of imports, Sitc971 (gold,non-monetary) 18.5 % and Sitc071 (coffee and coffee substitutes) 12.6 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Colombia declined by 22.3 per cent compared to in August of the previous year, thus amounting to $892 million in August 2020. The largest product groups of exports were: Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), which represented a share of 14.3 per cent of total exports, Sitc044 (maize (not including sweet corn), unmilled) 7.7 % and Sitc511 (hydrocarbons, n.e.s., and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives) 6.1 % of the exports.

Development during January-August 2020

During January-August, trade in goods between the two countries declined sharply (-24.8 %) over the same period last year. The value of the trade was $15.0 billion. During January-August the value of imports was $7.0 billion. The export value was $8.0 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -31.2 % and in the value of exports -18.2 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $2.3 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc334 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (other than crude); preparations, n.e.s., containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the prepar), worth being $1.4 billion. The domestic trade balance between the two countries was in surplus, as it had remained in deficit in January-August of the previous year. The surplus was worth $1.0 billion.
