USA's foreign trade with Canada, exports to Canada and imports from Canada in February 2021

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

Canada's share of USA's foreign trade in goods in February 2021 represented a share of 14.9 per cent. Share of USA's that month's exports was 17.9% and 13.0% of imports. In February Canada was USA's second largest foreign trade partner. $47.4 billion worth of trade was 0.2 per cent lower than in February of the previous year. In February the trade balance with Canada was $3.0 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Canada was 3.6 per cent higher than in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $25.2 billion. Major product categories of imports from Canada were Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), representing 17.5 percent of imports, Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 8.5 % and Sitc343 (natural gas, whether or not liquefied) 5.0 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Canada declined by 4.2 per cent compared to in February of the previous year, thus amounting to $22.2 billion in February 2021.

Development during January-February 2021

During January-February 2021, the value of trade in goods between countries was lower than the corresponding period in the previous year. The value of the trade was $93.1 billion, a decrease of 2.4 %. During January-February the value of imports was $49.8 billion. The export value was $43.4 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2020, the value of imports during this period increased by 0.1 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $8.7 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars), worth being $2.1 billion. The value of exports during this period decreased by 5.0 %. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-February remained in deficit.
