USA's foreign trade with Canada, exports to Canada and imports from Canada in November 2020

The text of the following analysis is produced by a computer program. The program is a test version and its rule base at this stage is still quite limited.

Trade with Canada represented in November of 2020, 13.7 per cent share of USA's foreign trade in goods, 17.8% of USA's exports and 11.3% of imports. In November Canada was USA's third largest foreign trade partner. $46.7 billion worth of trade was 4.1 per cent lower than in November of the previous year. In November the trade balance with Canada was $1.5 billion in deficit for United States of America.

The value of imports from Canada decreased by 4.5 per cent compared to in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $24.1 billion in November 2020. Major product categories of imports from Canada were Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), representing 14.7 percent of imports, Sitc781 (motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons (other than motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more persons, including the driver), including station-wagons and racing cars) 13.0 % and Sitc931 (special transactions and commodities not classified according to kind) 6.4 % of the imports.

The value of exports to Canada declined by 3.6 per cent compared to in November of the previous year, thus amounting to $22.6 billion in November 2020.

Development during January-November 2020

The trade in goods between January and November of 2020 was of lesser value than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The value of the trade was $478.0 billion, down 15.0 %. During January-November the value of imports was $245.7 billion. The export value was $232.3 billion. Compared to the corresponding period in 2019, the value of both imports and exports decreased significantly. The decline in imports was -15.9 % and in the value of exports -14.1 %. The largest value in imports was in Sitc333 (petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude), worth $38.6 billion. In export the largest value had Sitc784 (parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of groups 722, 781, 782 and 783), worth being $10.2 billion. From USA's point of view, the trade balance between the countries in January-November remained in deficit. The trade deficit was $13.4 billion. The trade deficit narrowed compared to the corresponding period in 2019. At that time, the deficit was $21.7 billion.
